Costume Design Workshops

Dates: upcoming classes tbd

Skill Level(s): Ages 10 - 17

Instructor: Amanda Munsen

This class is for artists who would like to explore the process of a costume designer! Within this class, students will read and interpret a short story and then create a characters costume to help tell those characters personal story. Students have ample studio time, and engage in critiques, as well as in-class presentations and group discussions.

Students will work on the following:

  • Breakdown the characters traits, culture, lifestyle, history, etc.

  • Basic figure drawing techniques

  • Explore backgrounds, body position of the character, or other various design work to complement their rendering

  • Learn how to employ the same elements of design found in art (line, color, texture, shape).

  • Explore various types of clothing materials as inspiration for their rendering

  • Students will be using mediums such as (but not limited to) gouache, watercolor, color pencil, and more.
